Austin Laz & Co. PLC began in 1976 as a small engineering workshop in Benin City, Nigeria, founded on the belief that Nigeria did not need to import every piece of industrial machinery it relied on. That conviction led to the design and manufacture of the Austin Lazarus Ice Machine, the first ice block making machine ever built in Nigeria and set the company on a path of indigenous technology development that continues today.
In 1982, the company was transformed into a Limited Liability Company, formalising a structure that has since grown into a group of three specialist businesses: Austin Laz Engineering (refrigeration and ice plant manufacturing), Build Materials Technology / BMT (Royal Glazed Roofing, Royal Glazed Suspended Ceilings and building materials), and EmmyPlast (our thermoplastic division) division. Each operates under the same values of quality, durability and made-in-Nigeria pride that the company was founded on.
Today, Austin Laz & Co. PLC employs over 150 staff, distributes across Nigeria and holds three patented inventions, a track record recognised with the National Merit Award for Indigenous Process Technology and the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM).
